What Brutes Men Are
by Constance Cox
Produced and Directed by Andy Hutchings
Colwyn Abbey Players entered this production in the
Colwyn Bay One Act Drama Play Festival presented by the Drama Association of Wales and performed the play on 24th March
2006 at Theatr Colwyn.
This gentle comedy was set in a 1960s hotel and features Carol
who has just left her husband. She meets Janet who, it
transpires, was the husband's first wife. To complicate matters
further, Linda, the husband's mother, turns up as well. The
ensemble is completed by a belligerent waitress, Mildred, who strongly
disapproves of the ladies' drinking sherry at that time of the day.
We were delighted to come second in the festival (but would have
preferred winning) and we received a warm reception from both the
adjudicator, George Owen, and the audience.
